DIY Wall Decoration For A Girl’s Bedroom

I enjoy dressing her in dainty sundresses.

I enjoy pulling her just-long-enough baby hair up in barrettes.

And I really enjoy decorating her bedroom.

Because she is so lovely, I want everything to be lovely for her.

Baby Sitting in Grass
I’ve been working on her bedroom for a few months now.  I painted the walls a light, ashy grey and I hung foamy, gauzy, pink curtains on the windows. We also added soundproof window treatments and window shades with the help of honeycomb window shade services to make her sleep cozier. Her room doesn’t have AC yet, so we are looking into having a window replacement like this Energy-Efficient Window Replacement as well to keep the temperature a bit more comfy.

I’ve already shared how I made the patterned butterflies that go up the wall.

This time, I’m going to share how I made this framed heart.

It’s pretty with nothing too fussy about it, and also fairly easy to make!  Here’s how:

How To Make A Framed Flower Heart For A Little Girl’s Room

Supplies You Will Need:

1.  Empty picture frame (14×18) – I found this one on the side of the road!  I re-painted it and distressed it.

2.  Enough burlap to cover the back of the frame

3.  Printout of THIS heart pattern on a piece of light pink card stock

4.  Several bunches of pink silk flowers (in a couple of different shades of pink if you like), with small flowers on them – You will need so much more than you would think…get a lot!

5.  Staple gun, scissors, hot glue gun

Supplies needed: scissors, glue gun, staple gun

Directions:

1.  Make sure your frame is clean and the glass is removed.  If you are wanting the distressed look that I gave my frame, go to THIS TUTORIAL – it is an easy method that turns out really nice.

2.  Once your frame is ready, stretch the burlap tightly across the back of the frame and staple gun it into place.  Cut off any excess.

3.  Cut out the heart pattern and, after centering it on the burlap, glue it into place.

4.  Cut the flowers off of the stems.  Get as close to the base of the flower as you can without cutting through it.

5.  Starting at the point of the heart and working your way up, glue the flowers onto the heart.  Pack them in tightly!  If you bought flowers in different shades of pink, make sure they are evenly distributed around the heart.

If you’re anything like me — you can’t sew worth a darn and you’re just never going to amount to an artist (but you can use a hot glue gun with your eyes closed) — it’s a really big deal that you actually created something this pretty!

So up it goes in my precious Maralyn Mae’s room.

How have you created a space for your own little girl without making any big purchases?

Hi, my name is Lauren. I am the wife of one fine man and the momma of four (huge) young children – three boys and one princess! I love all of them. I mostly clean up messes and feed people all day, and it’s really fun to write about it. Jesus is the rock of my family – we love and serve a mighty King! I hope you leave here full of hope that “tired” can be good.
