Fun Fall Craft To Do With Your Kids!

Handful of acorns

Fall is officially here!

And nothing is more refreshing than following up a blistering Alabama summer with a humidity-free, mosquito-free, gorgeous Alabama Fall.

Not too hot.  Not too cold.  And just enough acorns.

I don’t know what it is about Nature’s particular output during the Fall season, but there are craft opportunities for the taking!  Acorns, beautiful leaves, pinecones…there’s not enough Elmer’s in the world to keep up with our craft frenzy over here.

Our latest craft, Festive Painted Acorns, turned out to be quite an event.  Such an event, that I’m sharing it with you.  🙂

Bowl of acorns

Before you even begin crafting, you get to go on a fun adventure with your kiddos in search of   acorns and their cute little matching “hats.”  We rode bikes down the street and stopped at every yard that had an oak tree out front.  We ended up with handfuls!

Once all of our pockets were stuffed with acorns, we headed home.

We made a giant painting area on a sheet in the front yard.  I told the boys to paint the inside of the “hats” and the acorns in all sorts of colors.

After about 2 seconds, this is what my 2 boys looked like…

And after a while, this is what the “hats” and acorns started to look like…

We set them out in the sun to dry, and then put them inside a glass jar tied with a pretty pumpkin ribbon!

I love it!  Not because it will ever be recognized by an actual decorator, but because my boys made it, and I will always remember that hilarious day.

And call me crazy, but maybe it is kinda pretty!   🙂

What crafts do you enjoy making during the Fall season?

Lauren Souers
Hi, my name is Lauren. I am the wife of one fine man and the momma of four (huge) young children – three boys and one princess! I love all of them. I mostly clean up messes and feed people all day, and it’s really fun to write about it. Jesus is the rock of my family – we love and serve a mighty King! I hope you leave here full of hope that “tired” can be good.
